Why Daily Moisturisation Matters

Moisturising is one of the simplest skin-care habits. Why it helps, when to do it, and how to choose a moisturiser for your routine.

The outer layer of our skin works as a barrier that helps hold in moisture. Bathing, hot water, weather and air-conditioning can all reduce that moisture, leaving skin feeling tight, rough or itchy.

What moisturising does

A good moisturiser helps the skin hold on to water and feel soft and smooth. Regular use helps keep skin comfortable and looking healthy.

When to moisturise

  • Within a few minutes of bathing, while skin is slightly damp
  • After handwashing (for hands)
  • Before bed for very dry areas like heels, elbows and knees

Choosing a moisturiser

  • Lighter lotions suit warm, humid weather and normal skin.
  • Richer creams suit very dry skin and cold weather.
  • Patch test new products if your skin is sensitive.

A word about skin colour

A moisturiser can help skin look smooth and healthy. It should not be expected to change your natural skin colour — and healthy skin comes in every shade.
